Legal MattersEmployers must comply with federal and state child labor laws and regulations that address wage and hour, and workplace safety requirements for minors. Those of us at Twinfield who place students in the workplace need to understand the laws and have a responsibility to the students (and parents/guardians) involved in the WBL program to provide comprehensive information concerning risks associated with a particular work-based learning experience. Providing this detailed information, allows the student and his/her family to make an informed decision about the student's participation in a WBL experience.
You can find links (in orange) to the specific laws on the following pages. NOTE: Almost all of the information and resources in this handbook are verbatim from either from the Work-based Learning Coordinator graduate class, the Vermont Work-based Learning Manual or government documents. |
